On Tuesday, plastic surgeon Dr. David A. Kulber was called to the stand to testify about reconstructing Johnny Depp’s finger.

The Hollywood A-lister’s finger has become one of the main points of debate in the defamation trial after Depp alleged it was Heard who severed his finger by throwing a vodka bottle at him during their fight in Australia in March 2015.

According to Kulber, who works at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, he began treating Depp’s hand around March 20, whereas it took several months and multiple procedures to repair the actor’s hand.

“He had a fracture of his finger with soft tissue loss so we reconstructed his finger,” Dr. Kubler said.

He went on to say that the actor couldn’t “move his third and fourth fingers” and that it would be hard for him to grab someone with his damaged hand.

“It’s a more bulkier splint right after the surgery. So … it gets in the way … He could attempt to grab someone. But I don’t know how successful he would be,” he said.

While referring to Amber’s allegations that Depp hit her and ransacked her closet shortly after the incident, Heard’s attorney Ben Rottenborn cross-examined the surgeon and asked him whether Depp’s cast could have stopped the actor from destroying Heard’s closet.

“He had his other hand available,” Kubler said as he suggested it would be possible to cause the damage with the other hand.

Depp’s attorney Jessica Meyers then stepped in and asked the hand surgeon if Depp could have struck another person with his cast on.

“He could have hit someone with it. It probably would have injured, damaged the cast,” Kulber said.

Asked whether he ever noticed any damage to the actor’s cast, Kulber added: “I don’t recall. Not that comes to mind.”

The surgeon further testified that Depp wasn’t able to form a fist with his damaged hand while wearing a cast.
