A top neurosurgeon was found dead in the attic of his $1 million mansion.
53-year-old Devon Hoover from Detroit was an Ascension Michigan Hospital neurosurgeon and one of the state’s top medical professionals in the field.
According to the Detroit Police Department, the man was shot dead and wrapped in a sheet before his body was disposed of in the attic of his home where he presumably resided alone.
It is believed that Hoover was killed in a domestic situation that turned violent, whereas the homicide unit is actively investigating the case.
The Detroit PD also told DailyMail.com that the victim’s car was since discovered in a separate location. It remains unclear if it was left there by the victim or by the killer.
Hoover’s body was discovered during a welfare check after the “wonderful” surgeon failed to show up at a family gathering.
“It’s going to take some time to wrap your head around what has happened,” one of the man’s neighbors, Jonathan Shearrod, said.
“I just can’t imagine anyone experiencing that in their home or just having to face that kind of terror where you live.”
Shearrod also told Detroit News that his neighbor was “extremely involved in the neighborhood” and that he was the “anchor of the block.”
Paying the “dedicated” neurosurgeon a tribute was also his hospital which in a statement said:
“Devon Hoover, MD, was a dedicated and well-respected member of the Ascension Michigan family and will be greatly missed by our community.
“Our sincerest condolence and heartfelt prayers are with his family, friends and fellow associated during this incredibly difficult time.”
Our thoughts remain with Devon’s loved ones during this challenging time.
