A 24-year-old Subway worker shoved her 5-year-old son under the counter before she was shot by an angry customer inside an Atlanta Subway store.
Jada Statum was shot twice inside the Northside Drive and Markham Street Subway store and was left in critical condition.
But her co-worker Brittany Macon, 26, was shot and killed because of an argument about ‘too much mayonnaise’ on a sandwich.
The 5-year-old boy, who witnessed her mother getting critically injured, will also go through ‘trauma counseling.’
On Monday, the Atlanta Police Department announced that they have taken a 36-year-old man into custody after a citizen had called them with ‘information’ about the suspect.
The two women were ‘model employees’ and were best friends, 11 Alive reported. Macon had also loved Statum’s child as her own.
Maco’s grieving family said that she was ‘smart and sweet’ and had even thrown a family party so everyone could get together one month before the shooting.
Willie Glenn, the owner of the Subway store, told local outlets: “It just breaks my heart to know that someone has the audacity to point a weapon, and shoot someone for as little as too much mayonnaise on a sandwich.
“He decided to escalate the situation and from there, that’s when all hell broke loose.”
Glenn continued: “’It is really unfortunate, I mean there is just a whole lot of shooting and killing going on and this was just ridiculous. My heart goes out to my employees.
“I don’t know what the world is coming to especially with our youth…They seem to be so hot-headed.
“Everybody wants to carry a gun. Everybody wants to scare somebody with a gun. It’s scary out here.”
The Subway store co-owner, Al Bailey, was left shocked by the incident.
Speaking to WSBTV, he said: “You pull out a gun and shoot somebody, over a sandwich, my heart just breaks right now.”
