“She will be required to take relationship and parenting courses,” they added.

“She needs to tackle what went so catastrophically wrong with her care for Arthur. If she serves just her minimum sentence she’ll be in her 60s when released, so could form relationships that bring her into contact with children.”

The 6-year-old boy’s father, 29-year-old Thomas Hughes, was also imprisoned for 21 years for manslaughter and child cruelty.

A Coventry crown court judge said neither he nor the stepmother had shown any remorse for their cruel actions.

Arthur’s grandmother, Madeline Halcrow, branded Hughes and Tustin ‘evil’ and ‘sadistic’ and said his grandchild was failed by social services and police.

One person commented: “Parenting lessons? What a joke. She won’t be having more children thank goodness. Wasting tax payers money – so is keeping “it” in prison for over 20 years.”

Another wrote: “She will be at least 61 years old when (if) she gets out of prison, and certainly not likely to ever be a parent again, so the parenting lessons will be a total waste of time and resources!”
