A state trooper from North Carolina accidentally killed two young men, including his own brother, while offering assistance during a traffic stop.
North Carolina State Trooper James Horton lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the cruiser of his cop brother, state trooper John Horton, while attempting to assist him during a Monday traffic stop.
According to the reports, John pulled 26-year-old Dusty Luke Beck, a father-of-three, over for undisclosed reasons. As of this writing, it remains unclear why James attempted to offer assistance to his brother or why he had lost control of his vehicle.
Following the collision, Dusty Luke Beck was pronounced dead on the scene. Meanwhile, John Horton was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The tragic accident currently remains under investigation, whereas reports suggest that weather conditions might have played a role in the crash.
“Our hearts are broken with the loss of our friend and our brother, Trooper John Horton. For all involved in this tragic event the coming days will undoubtedly be difficult, but we are committed to stand alongside with them with our thoughts, prayers and unwavering support,” Colonel Freddy L. Johnson Jr. of the State Highway Patrol said in a tribute to the veteran cop of 15 years.
In the meanwhile, Beck’s family has also spoken out and branded the 26-year-old as a loving father who was full of life.
“I’ve seen so much about the officer who was killed but this sweet soul needs to be remembered also,” one of the young dad’s friends wrote in a tribute shared on Facebook.
“Dusty was so full of life. I remember seeing him so much during my teenage years. He was such a character!! And so full of life!! He’s a son, a brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and father!!
“My heart breaks for them all during this! His life was taken too. And he is going to be missed terribly!! I pray for everyone involved in this horrific accident but Dusty’s name needs to be out there too.”
