Sixteen Candles and The Lucy Show star Carole Cook has passed away only three days before her 99th birthday, her husband Tom Troupe, 94, confirmed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the legendary star died in Beverly Hills due to heart failure.
Cook was one of the proteges and best friends of Hollywood star Lucille Ball which led her to numerous appearances on Here’s Lucy and The Lucy Show.
Cook appeared on 18 episodes of The Lucy Show and played Carmichael’s friend Thelma Green.
She then starred alongside Ball on Here’s Lucy from 1969 to 1974.
Their bond was so strong that Ball was even the matron of honor at Cook’s 1964 wedding to Troupe.
In 1965, the two played a game together at the hit game show Password.
One of Cook’s major roles was as Helen, the grandmother of Molly Ringwald’s character Samantha Baker in the 1984 movie Sixteen Candles.
In 1964, she starred alongside Don Knotts in the comedy film The Incredible Mr. Limpet.
The actress also appeared in other movies including American Gigolo (1980), Summer Loves (1982), Grandview, U.S.A. (1984), and Palm Spring Weekend (1963).
Her successful television career also included roles in Maude (1974), Kojak (1977), and That Girl (1969).
Fans took to social media and showed their sympathies, with one person writing: “Oh, I loved her. RIP.”
Another wrote: “I remember her from Murder She Wrote ..she was fabulous. RIP darling lady.”
A third said: “I think she was only about 10 years younger than Lucille Ball, who died in 1989–34 years ago. This lady sure lived a long and full life. I remember her very well on the Lucy shows.”
A fourth added: “She was an excellent actress. Fortunate to live such a long life. May she Rest In Peace.”
