Six young children were found dead alongside two adults at a family home in Oklahoma.
The disturbing incident, which is being investigated as a murder-suicide case, takes place in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where the police and firefighters rushed to a burning home only to find six deceased children and two dead adults.
While the investigation is still fresh, the police believe the children died at the hands of their parents before the pair took their own lives and set the home on fire.
The cause of the children’s death is yet to be determined. The authorities, however, are convinced they did not die because of the fire.
As Broken Arrow Police Chief Brandon Berryhill said of the suspected murder-suicide case, firearms presumably belonging to the parents were recovered from their house.
“No one should have to face this tragedy. We have peer support teams set up, outside counseling for firefighters and families, and crews met with the chaplain team, addressing their health,” he said.
“This is a once in a lifetime tragedy.”
Berryhill continued: “To arrive on scene yesterday and to see the looks on our first responders’ and firefighters’ faces just absolutely broke my heart.”
As the police explained, all six children, aged between 1 and 13, were found in a room inside the home while the two adults were lying dead outside the house.
Meanwhile, one shocked neighbor recalled the “insane” moment his family and the rest of the neighborhood found out what had happened next door.
“It’s very quiet, very peaceful, so for something like this to happen, it’s just insane,” Taylon Price said.
The investigation into the shocking killings continues.
“Broken Arrow stands together. We will mourn together, and in the end we will heal together,” Chief Berryhill said.
“Please pray for those who have lost their lives, and for our first responders who are dealing with a tragedy of this magnitude.”
