Twin siblings were tragically killed after they were both electrocuted while the woman’s one-year-old baby sat in the car during Hurricane Nicole.
The incident happened in the suburb of Conway when Khalil Sapp was traveling with his twin sister Kianna and her daughter, Mylah.
According to reports, they encountered a live cable in the midst of the hurricane.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said that Khalil touched the line and was electrocuted. Kianna went out of the car but was also electrocuted while trying to save her brother.
Witness Kimberly Neff told WFTV that first responders had difficulty getting to the victims because of the strong winds.
Kianna was rushed to a hospital but she was also declared dead. The siblings were only 23 years old.
The one-year-old baby who was sitting in the car was uninjured during the incident.
A GoFundme page set up to help cover the funeral expenses describes the twins as “two young souls full of dreams, hopes and aspirations.’
“These two siblings with positive attitudes, always willing to help others and always put others needs before theirs.”
According to WFTV, the siblings’ father was at the scene waiting for crews to remove debris so he could leave flowers where his children tragically died.
Kianna worked in retail, her Facebook page showed, while Khalil was an entrepreneur in Orlando.
“This really is a reminder to use extreme caution when out after a storm. Never touch a downed power line. Always assume that it is a live wire,” Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said of the incident.
The sheriff’s office also reported that two others were killed in a car crash on Florida’s Trumpike.
In Cocoa Beach, an elderly man also died on board his yacht during the peak of the hurricane.
