The 4th of July celebrations in Chicago came to an abrupt and tragic end as new reports confirmed a shooting taking place in Highland Park.
According to local media outlets, the exact location of the parade was outlined by the cops as Highland Park in Illinois. But that soon came to a stop when people began running for their lives and ducking for cover as the sound of bullets filled the air.
Meanwhile, devastating reports from the Chicago Sun-Times claim a number of people suffered terrifying injuries while being covered in blood.
The incident is believed to have started at 10 am in the morning on Monday while citizens were seen celebrating the public holiday.
The Highland Park police are yet to unveil any more details about the shooting as investigations into the incident are taking place since it’s a developing story.
They just called the tragedy ‘an incident’ that they were busy interrogating while the area’s Sheriff’s Office says they are busy assisting with reports about a shooting.
At the moment, it’s still not clear how many people have been injured or killed in the aftermath of the tragedy but recent footage made by witnesses has started to circulate online. This shows a number of attendees running for their lives while huge screams of ‘gunshots!’ filled the air.
Cops and paramedics arrived within minutes of the incident and were seen trying to clear the streets. It’s not clear if the gunman has been captured or not as witnesses say it was just too chaotic to understand what was going on.
“There was panic and screams everywhere. People were running in all directions for cover. We were so fearful for our lives. There were some victims on the ground”- mentioned one witnessed in a horrified tone.
