At least five people were reportedly killed and more than three injured as a lone gunman carried out a horrifying shooting spree in Denver, Colorado.
According to local media reports, one of the victims killed included a cop as police claim the gunman was on a mission to kill as many people as possible after arriving at six different locations in the greater Denver area on Monday night.
While the identity of the gunman remains anonymous police claim that he fired several shots upon arrival at the various locations across the city.
After carrying out the horror, the gunman was shot down by cops when he tried to open fire at them. At that time, he also managed to strike one cop with bullets at the back, leaving him with critical injuries. At the moment, that officer is currently being treated at a nearby hospital as confirmed by news reports.
While the real motive behind the gunman’s killing spree is yet to be known, it has been revealed that relevant state authorities are carrying out an investigation into the tragic act.
At the moment, officials are requesting citizens to keep all of the victims, including the officer who appears to be fighting for his life, in their thoughts as well as prayers.
The police chief for the Denver Police Department referred to the incident as not something they see normally in this part of the community. “This one certain individual is responsible for the very violent crime that took place this evening,” he added.
“We are just requesting everyone to remain vigilant and to pray for all those affected by this horrifyingly tragic act,” the Chief went on to state.
As investigations into the incident continue, the exact location where the tragedy began was identified as the intersection of East 1st Avenue and Broadway.
