At least five people were shot, one of them critically, during a pop-up party on Coney Island’s iconic boardwalk.
As New York City struggles with a plague of gun violence, yet another shooting took place on the metropolis’ Coney Island.
According to the preliminary reports, the shooting began at around 2 am on Sunday after a suspect opened fire on a large crowd of partygoers who gathered on the south of the island for a pop-up boardwalk party.
It is believed that five people were injured in the shooting. One of them, a 31-year-old man, suffered critical injuries after being shot in the back.
Among the victims, who are aged between 19 and 37, were also two women who got shot in the leg, a man who was shot in the leg, and another man who suffered an injury to his chin.
The critically injured man remains at Coney Island Hospital while the other four victims were rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn after the incident.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
As of Sunday afternoon, the suspect remains at large and the police have yet to identify the shooter.
“Right now, the five victims are not saying anything,” a police insider said according to The New York Post. It is not clear why the victims of the shooting initially refused to cooperate with the investigation.
The news comes following another weekend of violence in The Big Apple. According to the reports, an additional six people were shot across the city in unrelated incidents on Saturday and Sunday.
