You may have come across plenty of bizarre punishments in your life but this next story about an Italian town punishing its own politicians is sure to startle you.
Sources from local media outlets are shedding light on one of the most bizarre types of punishments out there today. And despite the fact that we’re living in the modern era, this Italian town makes use of this unique punishment system.
Think along the lines of locking the suspect inside a cage and dunking them into a river! Yes, we’re not kidding with you on this one.
There’s a town in one of Italy’s cities where each year, politicians that take part in wrong behavior are punished. But the punishment is one that isn’t heard of anywhere else in the modern world.
But before you get all serious, just note that this is not as serious as it sounds. The politicians are locked into a cage and lowered into the river water as a means of getting a slight dip of what it feels like to be submerged.
Thankfully, it lasts for a minute or two, right before they’re removed. So it’s more of a funny punishment than anything else.
This charming aquatic event is known as Tonca and it is said to be a part of the Vigilian Celebrations. The city of Trento puts it on every year during the second half of June.
And such events are stated to occur as they pay homage to Saint Vigilio who is the main saint of this famous city.
Only those that are put on trial and found to be indulged in some sort of disgraceful behavior are dipped while the rest are spared, locals revealed.
