Desperate selfie-takers are going viral after shocking footage showed them taking pictures of the moment hurricane Ian barrelled into the state of Florida.
As thousands were seen being evacuated, these individuals opted to put on a brave face and display shocking behavior by taking out the time to capture the moment live with their smartphones.
Sources claim the individuals were seeking a thrill from the deadly effect of the incident and defied all orders from the police to gain the ultimate shot which featured the giant waves.
The video showed hundreds including young kids armed with big cameras and selfie sticks.
The first to feel the massive effects of the natural disaster was Florida’s key west. The news comes as the wrath moves in a north direction.
As we speak, the storm continues to gain strength and could be seen getting upgraded to category four. Moreover, around one million Floridians were seen being deprived of electricity.
The state’s governor says rescue efforts are continuing at the moment as many citizens are still trapped and waiting for help to reach them. Ron DeSantis has also issued a warning that this is the final chance for residents to evacuate to safety.
When questioned by officials and the police as to why they chose to play with their lives and capture shots, their answer was unbelievable. And it comprised of how it was all being done ‘for the gram’ or should we say, to get instant fame on social media.
But the police are urging citizens that this could be a matter of life and death and hence must be taken seriously. They have urged residents to stay put indoors and evacuate to safer places if they’re currently sitting in a danger zone.
There were also plenty of threats of being electrocuted by downed powerlines and that’s why officials want citizens to remain indoors.
