A schoolgirl was taken to hospital after being stabbed on a street near her school.
A 12-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident which took place shortly after 8 am near the Co-op Academy in Blackley, Manchester on Monday morning.
The victim, an 11-year-old schoolgirl from Co-op Academy, who was attacked on Chapel Lane, suffered a “small laceration to the top of her shoulder” and has since been discharged from the hospital.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At around 8:30 am this morning, police were called to a report of a stabbing on Chapel Lane, Blackley.point 187 | Officers attended and located an 11-year-old girl with a small laceration to the top of her shoulder”.point 275 | 1
“She was taken to hospital as a precaution and has since been discharged. A 12-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of assault. Inquiries are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
The force later confirmed that the 12-year-old arrested was a girl. A police van was pictured outside the school on Plant Hill Road on Monday morning.
A spokesperson from North West Ambulance Service released a statement saying: “We have attended a police incident at the school following a call at 8:22 am and have taken a female patient to the hospital.”
While a Co-op Academy spokesperson confirmed: “We can confirm an incident occurred off-site today before school this morning. All involved are being looked after and supported. As this is the subject of an ongoing police investigation it would be inappropriate to comment further”
Meanwhile, a message sent to parents by the school, seen by the Manchester Evening News, said the incident had been “dealt with quickly and appropriately”.
It added: “We appreciate the concern from parents and carers and we have communicated as soon as we can after ensuring the safety of all students.”
Co-op Academy Manchester, formerly known as The Co-operative Academy of Manchester is a non-selective, mixed secondary school in Blackley, Manchester. It opened in September 2010 and replaced Plant Hill Arts College.
The academy is part of The Co-operative Academies Trust, a group of schools sponsored by The Co-operative Group. The values of the academy are Fairness, Ambition, and Respect.
