A schoolgirl has died after suffering from cardiac arrest while she was sleeping in her bed.
16-year-old Andressa Santos, an aspiring model, was found dead in their home in Anapolis, Brazil, by her grandmother. She was rushed to a hospital but there was nothing that could be done to save her.
She reportedly suffered numerous health problems before she passed away. Only months before her death, she was taken to a hospital after suffering a seizure at school.
The grieving family spoke of their heartache and said doctors haven’t confirmed the cause of death.
The teen’s heartbroken aunt, Ana Paula Santos, said: “This year, she had seizures. She was hospitalized in July, but she was already better.
“A few days ago she had a seizure at school. Then, unfortunately, she fell ill at home. I’m the mother of my niece’s heart, it hurts so much.”
It was Andressa’s grandmother who found her unresponsive inside her room. She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.
According to reports, the cause of death was later revealed to be cardiac arrest.
“We knew that from time to time she had these seizures, but nobody knew what it was,” a grieving friend said.
“It started a little while ago, I think December of last year, but no doctor ever said what it was.”
Andressa, who joined the beauty pageant Miss Teen Anapolis in 2020, had many dreams – including going to a university. She was studying at the State College of the Military Police Sendor Onofre Quinan when her life was cut short.
The cause of her heart attack is still not known. Cardiac arrest in young people is rare but there have been some cases documented in Brazil this year.
In October, a 7-year-old boy passed away after suffering seven heart attacks after being stung by a Brazilian yellow scorpion.
