A juvenile was arrested on suspicion of shooting a middle school student in Oakland, California.
The police stormed the Madison Park Academy campus at around 2.30 pm on Monday after a 12-year-old gunman opened fire at the middle school and injured a 13-year-old student.
According to the early reports, the school was evacuated and the suspect was arrested shortly after fleeing the crime scene.
As of this writing, it is unclear what the extent of the victim’s injuries is and whether they will recover from their gunshot wounds.
It is believed that the 13-year-old was the sole victim of what appears to be a premeditated shooting.
The police have yet to establish a motive for the shooting and reveal if the pre-teen shooter was also a student at the middle school or not.
In pictures and footage from the scene, desperate parents were seen waiting outside the school for their kids to emerge after the shooting.
Meanwhile, the evacuation efforts caused great traffic in the area.
“Suspect is in custody and gun has been recovered in Oakland shooting at Madison Park Academy, officials tell me. Parents rushing to school to get their kids. Traffic backed up around scene,” Evan Sernoffsky of KTVU tweeted from the scene.
He added: “One hour after students were released, Madison Park Academy is empty and students have gone home to their families, many obviously shaken up.”
The case currently remains under investigation by the joint efforts of Oakland Police and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
Neither have yet commented on the victim’s condition or specific circumstances of the shooting.
