A young boy tragically died after being struck by a school bus just moments after finishing his final class before the Christmas break.
The tragedy takes place in Missouri where a 6-year-old boy from Plattin was hit by a school bus after crossing a street at Oakland Mobile Home Park neighborhood in front of the vehicle.
It has since come to light that the Plattin Primary schoolboy had just finished his final class before Christmas when the accident happened.
On the final day of school before Christmas break, the students were allegedly singing together and having a good time. Hours later, the community was shocked by the devastating news of the boy’s death.
“This morning we were singing Christmas carols together,” Superintendent Clint Johnston said.
“This is a bad day; it’s a bad day for our school, it’s a bad day for our community. We’re hurting.”
As St. Louis Dispatch later reported, Trooper Scott Roettger confirmed that witnesses, including the unnamed bus driver, have been questioned after the incident.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Johnston encouraged parents to talk about what had happened with their children as he reassured the community that counseling would be made available both for the staff as well as students.
“I think that it’s important that you start by letting them know you care about them, and you let them know it’s okay to hurt,” he added.
“We have to work together as a community to get through this situation. It’s going to be a tough Christmas season for a lot of people, and we’ll get through it. We’ll rise. We’ll pull together, but this is not the way anyone wants to ever have to experience a holiday break.”
