Fed-up Russian customers were reportedly served moldy burgers after McDonald’s restaurants exited the country earlier this year.
50 restaurants reopened in June under the new name Vkusno & Tochka or ‘Tasty and that’s it.’
However, customers complained of moldy burgers while others found ‘insect legs’ in their meals.
Ksenia Sobchak, a popular TV celebrity, posted on her Telegram channel and said: “Vkusno & Tochka sells moldy burgers. It looks like they don’t quite honor the standards of McDonald’s, at least in terms of product quality control.
“Today at least three cases were recorded of burgers with moldy buns sold to customers. Two of them were for my subscribers.”
When Vkusno & Tochka took over the McDonald’s restaurants, the company promised “the same but better.”
“I don’t think it’s OK when you find mold,” one person said.
Showing photos of the mold, Sobhack told the company: “Figure it out, guys, you don’t need to poison people.”
Many customers complained of expired cheese sauces and a lack of meat in cheeseburgers. Some even shared pictures of ‘insect legs’ in their meal.
Customers have also complained that the fries are ‘sad’ compared with McDonald’s fries.
Oleg Paroev, the CEO of Vkusno & Tochka, said that all 850 McDonald’s outlets would reopen under the new name by September.
McDonald’s decision to exit Russia comes as other food and beverage companies including Starbucks, Pepsi and Coca-Cola have closed or paused operations in the country.
One person commented: “Because it’s all leftover stock. Once that runs out, we’ll see what their Bigmacski looks like.”
Another wrote: “Moldy or not, those don’t even look like burger buns to me. None of them look even remotely like the image shown on the back side of the kiosk the guy’s using to place his order.”
