The momentary peace in Kyiv, Ukraine, has come to an end as Putin ordered fresh strikes on the capital.
After more than a month of calm in Kyiv – and while the war with Russia rages on in eastern Ukraine – President Putin has launched a fresh missile attack on the capital.
According to the reports, a barrage of Russian missiles struck railway targets in Kyiv on early Sunday.
Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has since confirmed that at least one person was injured in the attack. It remains unclear if there were any casualties.
The attack comes after President Joe Biden vowed to send “more advanced rocket systems and munitions that will enable them [Ukrainians] to more precisely strike key targets on the battlefield in Ukraine.”
Responding to the West’s continuous military support of Ukraine, Russia’s Putin threatened more long-range missile strikes on new targets in Ukraine.
“We will draw the appropriate conclusions and use our arms… to strike targets we haven’t hit before,” Putin said in response to Ukraine being promised long-range weapons.
While NATO is not sending its forces to Ukraine over fears it could trigger a full-blown nuclear war with Russia, the military alliance has been supplying Ukraine with weapons, anti-tank and anti-craft missiles, drones, and heavy artillery for months.
To boost Ukraine’s resistance, President Biden also revealed Washington would be sending several M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems to Ukraine.
While Kyiv could use these systems to reach Russian targets fighting in Donbas, the Ukrainian government reassured Biden that the weapons will not be used to strike enemy targets in Russia.
