US intel has obtained information that Russian commanders have already received their orders to invade Ukraine.
According to a new report, U.S. intelligence reveals that Russian President Vladimir Putin has already given his troops orders to proceed with an invasion into Ukraine.
David Martin, the network’s national security correspondent, said while appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation: “They’re doing everything that American commanders would do once they got the order to proceed.”
“The intelligence says that Russian troops have actually received orders now to proceed with the invasion. So not only are they moving up closer and closer to the border and into these attack positions, but the commanders on the ground are making specific plans for how they would maneuver in their sector of the battlefield,” said Martin.
Martin’s revelation comes after President Joe Biden said Friday that he is very certain that Putin has already made up his mind that he will attack Ukraine based on D.C’s “significant intelligence capability”.
America’s top foreign affairs officials warned Sunday that Putin’s moves show that Russia is “dead serious” about invading Ukraine, but insist there likely won’t be a threat to U.S. troops.
Lloyd Austin, Defense Secretary, has told host Martha Raddatz on ABC News’ “This Week” that he doesn’t believe President Vladimir Putin is bluffing. Raddatz asked: “This is not a bluff?”
The secretary responded: “No, I don’t believe it’s a bluff”, adding that he thinks the Russian president has gathered the forces and equipment “you would need to conduct a successful invasion.”
Austin said that it’s “highly likely” if Russia invades Ukraine, there will be a swift movement for Moscow to try and take the capital city of Kyiv.
Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, also said that US intelligence believes Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to attack Ukraine. Blinken said: “Everything we’re seeing tells us that the decision we believe President Putin has made to invade is moving forward.”
“False flag operations, now the news just this morning that the “exercises” Russia was engaged in Belarus with 30,000 Russian forces that was supposed to end this weekend will now continue because of tensions in eastern Ukraine, tensions created by Russia and the separatist forces it backs there.”
Russia has massed roughly 150,000 troops, warplanes, and equipment on Ukraine’s three sides, escalating tensions with the neighboring country. The defense minister of Belarus also announced Russia will be extending military drills taking place in the country near Ukraine’s northern borders, which brought a large group of Russian troops to Belarus.
Later on Sunday, the US embassy in Russia warned Americans living in the country to prepare evacuation plans. It said there was a risk of attacks on Moscow and other major cities, and on Russian territory along the Ukraine border.
In anticipation of an attack, the U.S. and other allies, most recently Germany and Austria, have urged their citizens to leave the country. The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine also temporarily relocated its operations from Kyiv to Lviv due to the acceleration in the buildup of Russian forces.
While top U.S. officials have warned Russia is poised to strike Ukraine and the Pentagon has sent roughly 5,000 troops to Eastern Europe to bolster NATO forces, the Biden administration continues to keep a diplomatic option on the table. The president has stressed no American forces would go into Ukraine if Russia invades.
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian president, was sharply critical of allied leaders for waiting to impose sanctions until after any bombardment began. He accused world leaders of “appeasement”. Zelenskiy said: “You’re telling me that it’s 100% that the war will start in a couple of days. Then what are you waiting for?”
Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S., said Ukrainian officials are using “every possibility” to force Russia to choose the diplomatic path rather than an attack.
Markarova said that while Ukraine will “work day and night to make use of any possibility to still prevent Russia from invading,” events of the past few days indicate that an escalation is likely.
However, Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to Washington, told CBS the massive operation was limited to “sovereign Russian territory”, glossing over sizable forces and drills in Belarus.
The ambassador added that the goal was to achieve “legally binding guarantees for Russian security” and to stop NATO expansion on its borders.
