Hollywood actor Russell Crowe broke into tears as he announced the death of his beloved family member on Friday morning.
The Gladiator star opened up about the unfortunate incident during his appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show as he revealed his beloved dog had died at the age of just 16 months.
According to Crowe, Louis the puppy died on his father’s second death anniversary after getting hit by a truck.
“Are you alright? Is everything alright there?” Host Kyle Sandilands asked the actor.
“No, we’re actually a little devastated,” Crowe responded.
“He was such a beautiful little pup you know and kind of wrapped us around him and shaped our lives around him. So it’s gonna take a little time to get past.”
Offering his sympathies to visibly shaken Crowe, Kyle agreed that dogs count as “family members” and that losing a companion can be just as tough as losing a person.
The interview comes just a day after Crowe took to Twitter to announce the heart-wrenching death of Louis.
“This is Louis. 16 months old. Tiny, cheeky, brave. He won my heart. Unfortunately, today, on the 2nd anniversary of my father’s passing, he was hit by a truck,” the 58-year-old Robin Hood star wrote.
“We tried to get him to the vet, but he died in my arms while I was telling him how much we loved him.”
Adding to the tragedy, Louis passed away on the second death anniversary of Russell’s father, John Alexander Crowe.
“I arrived back in the bush last night. Today, although the sun is shining and the torrential rain has abated, this date will forever be tinged with sadness,” Russell wrote in March 2020 after his dad’s passing.
“My dear old man, my beautiful dad, the most gentle of men, has passed away. Passed away in Coffs Harbour, NSW, his home for the last 25 years. Rest In Peace.”
Our thoughts are with Russell during this challenging time.
