At least one tragically died and many others were left injured after a rollercoaster derailed during its course.
A representative from Grona Lund, which has been operational for 140 years, confirmed that one person died and said that the tragic incident led to several injuries.
Horrified witnesses detailed the accident, describing how authorities rushed to the scene and secured the area.
According to reports, the accident was so severe that the wheels of the ride detached.
The Jetline rollercoaster is one of the park’s major rides. It features a steel-tracked ride that is capable of up to 56mph speeds.
One of the parkgoers, Cecilia, told Aftonbladet: “First we heard three, four loud bangs. People started screaming and then people started running. At first they thought it was a shooting.
“Then we saw how the wheels from the cart were on the ground. That was probably what sounded so loud. It’s terrible, this kind of thing can’t happen.”
The amusement park in Sweden will remain closed until further notice.
Another witness, Jenny Lagerstedt, said she heard a metallic noise and saw the track shaking. She and her husband then watched the coaster car falling to the ground while terrified passengers were still on board.
Annika Troselius, the park’s Head of Information, confirmed that the injuries are severe and stated that their main focus is on helping the victims and providing support to their staff.
“The reason for that is something that we must return to. Everyone is one hundred percent focused on helping the victims now,” Troselius told Aftonbladeet.
