A massive mystery explosion reportedly rocked Chicago on Tuesday in the early morning hours.
According to local media outlets, at least eight people were left injured, of which three have been identified to be in critical condition.
The news left the community in a state of shock as the cops and paramedics rushed to the scene of the tragedy. Those injured were immediately sent to a nearby medical facility and are being treated for their wounds.
The intensity of the explosion is being stated to be so massive that it decimated the entire top floor of a Chicago apartment building. The bomb squad was reportedly called out to investigate the matter as fears of more bombs were at large.
As investigations continue, authorities are not providing details on what they think went on. Right now, their main focus appears to be relief and rescue to those injured, local media outlets mentioned.
The location was stated to be the west side of Chicago, as the fire department requested more ambulances and feared more people might be inside. Sources revealed they also sent a mass casualty vehicle to the collapse scene.
Local media outlets claim the range of casualties includes burns and traumatic injuries, and all victims transported for medical attention via ambulances were identified as adults.
Meanwhile, bomb squad vehicles and representatives from the Bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives could all be witnessed arriving.
The giant four-story tall building is in South Austin, Chicago, and is located at West End Avenue. And the timings for the explosion are believed to have been 9:30 am central time.
So far, authorities have confirmed that all buildings in the nearby vicinity have also been evacuated as a safety precaution.
