A devastated Robert De Niro was seen at a New York City funeral home after the tragic death of his 19-year-old grandson.
The actor was seen stepping out of his house in the Upper East Side and into an SUV that drove him to the Frank E. Campbell funeral home.
His grandson, Leandro, was reportedly found dead in a chair in his apartment.
The 79-year-old actor arrived at the funeral home with Leandro’s parents, his daughter Drena De Niro, and artist Carlos Rodriguez.
After the funeral home visit, Drena posted a heartbreaking update and said that she held Leandro’s body ‘for the last time,’ adding the teen ‘didn’t deserve to die like this.’
“You didn’t deserve to die like this but I can only believe that God needed a strong powerful angel in their army,” Drena wrote.
“The same man that picked us up from the hospital when you were born drove us to the funeral home where I touched and held you for the last time,” she went on.
According to reports, Leandro was found unconscious with a white powdery substance on a plate next to him.
In a heartbreaking statement on Instagram, his father Carlos, a graffiti artist, and mother Drena, 51, said: “It is with immeasurable shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo. We thank you for the outpouring love and support and ask that we are given privacy this time to process this inconsolable grief.”
Carlos added: “You can’t spell Love without Leo.”
The grieving father previously posted a message on Drena’s Instagram.
“Words aren’t enough to express the joy he gave us or the loss we now endure with our families and friends,” he said.
“He is God’s child now.
“On this full moon his spirit luminates what could not be seen in the dark.”
