Robbie Knievel, the son of daredevil Evel Knievel, has passed away with his daughters by his side.
According to reports, he died on Friday morning at the age of 60 after battling pancreatic cancer.
This comes after a source close to the family revealed that he had been receiving hospice care.
Robbie followed his father’s footsteps as a stuntman, riding his first bicycle when he was only four. By the time he was 8, he was already performing at his father’s Madison Square Garden show.
He was also known as ‘Kaptain Robbie Knievel’ throughout his career, performing more than 350 jumps and cementing his legacy by setting world records for at least 20 of them.
Speaking about his father’s legacy, he said in a 2010 interview: “I can never fill [my father’s] shoes because he was the greatest stunt guy in the world – the greatest daredevil.,” adding that stuntmen are a ‘dying breed’ but he was proud ‘to have been raised by one and to be one myself.’
Robbie also recalled how his father told him that he didn’t want his son to be a thrill-seeker after a near-fatal crash that left Evel with a crushed vertebrae and a broken pelvis.
But Robbie was captivated by his father’s passion for performing and career.
“I used to ride every day with my dad and he said I was better than him when I was 15. We did so many good shows together,” Robbie recalled.
“He was just a guy who came along at the right time. He was charismatic, spoke from his heart, and could do what nobody else could do. He was the true daredevil, there was no fake about it.”
Evel passed away in 2007 at the age of 69.
In a 2015 interview, Robbie said: “I was the son of Evel Knievel. He totally saw me in him and he knew I was gonna do it. I was like, ‘I’m gonna be you, dad.’”
