The cause of the death of Harry Potter star Robbie Coltrane has been revealed.
The world of entertainment plunged into mourning alongside Harry Potter franchise fans last week after it was announced that Coltrane, who played Hogwarts gamekeeper Hagrid in the movies, passed away at the age of 72.
Following his death, thousands of celebrities, fans, and co-stars of the beloved Scottish actor paid the “kind,” “compassionate,” and “funny” man a touching tribute.
Now, a new report revealed that multiple organ failure was listed as the cause of death on Robbie’s death certificate.
Contributing to his premature death were allegedly also several other factors that the actor was suffering from in the months leading to his death.
These factors include Type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart block, sepsis, and a lower respiratory tract infection.
It was further revealed that it is believed Coltrane wasn’t feeling well for “some time” prior to his passing.
It is possible that his deteriorating health condition was the main reason why he canceled his appearance at London’s Comic Con earlier this year.
Following the beloved comedian’s death, countless fans and celebrities paid Robbie heartbreaking tributes on social media.
Among them were also his main Harry Potter co-stars including Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint.
“Robbie was one of the funniest people I’ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set. I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on Prisoner Of Azkaban, when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut, and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up,” Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter, recalled.
“I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man.”
Emma Watson, who portrayed a Muggle-born Hermione Granger, said Robbie was like a “fun uncle” to the kids on the set.
“Robbie was like the most fun uncle I’ve ever had, but most of all, he was deeply caring and compassionate towards me as a child and an adult. His talent was so immense that it made sense he played a giant—he could fill ANY space with his brilliance,” she expressed.
“Robbie, if I ever get to be so kind as you were to me on a film set I promise I’ll do it in your name and memory. Know how much I adore and admire you. I’ll really miss your sweetness, your nicknames, your warmth, your laughs, and your hugs. You made us a family. Know you were that to us.”
Remembering Coltrane was also Ron Weasley star Rupert Grint who wrote: “Heartbroken to hear that Robbie is gone. I’ll never forget the smell of cigars and beard glue – a wonderful combination. No one else on this planet could [have] played Hagrid, only Robbie.”
Our thoughts remain with Robbie’s family and friends.
