Ray Liotta, best known for the Marin Scorsese film, has passed away in his sleep in the Dominican Republic where he was shooting the movie Dangerous Waters, his reps said.
Soon after the saddening news was announced, tributes poured in for the actor.
His Goodfellas co-star Lorraine Bracco, who played his wife in the 1990 film, said she was ‘utterly shattered’ after hearing the news of his death.
“I am utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray,” Bracco said.
“I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is Goodfellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie.
“My response has always been the same…Ray Liotta.”
Robert de Niro also paid tribute to Liotta.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “I was very saddened to learn of Ray’s passing. He is way too way young to have left us. May he Rest in Peace.”
Jennifer Love Hewitt, who worked with the actor on the 2001 movie Heartbreakers, also shared a heartwarming tribute.
“’m heart broken. I loved the time we spent and memories we made. You will be so missed,” she wrote, adding a photo of a dove with an olive branch and a broken heart emoji.
Jennifer Lopez, who cast Liotta in her TV series Shades of Blue, also took to Twitter and wrote: “Ray was my partner in crime on Shades of Blue … the first thing that comes to mind is he so was kind to my children.
“Ray was the epitome of a tough guy who was all mushy on the inside … I guess that’s what made him such a compelling actor to watch. The original Goodfella.”
Viola Davis said: “RIP Ray Liotta!! Loved your work,” adding a heart emoji.
Jamie Lee Curtis, who worked with Liotta on 1988 Dominick and Eugene, shared: “His work as an actor showed complexity as a human being. A gentle man. So sad to hear.”
