Ravens star Tony Siragusa, a longtime NFL player, passed away at the age of 55.
The fan favorite’s broadcast agent Jim Ornstein confirmed his death to The Associated Press. While the cause of death hasn’t been revealed, the New Jersey native reportedly died in his sleep.
“This is a really sad day. Tony was way more than my client, he was family,” Ornstein expressed. “My heart goes out to Tony’s loved ones.”
Siragusa was a member of the Ravens team that beat the New York Giants in the Superbowl at the end of the 2000 NFL season.
The beloved NFL player then went on to act in many episodes of HBO’s Sopranos.
He also became a sideline reporter for Fox’s NFL broadcasts and hosted shows on DIY Network and the Discovery Channel.
Siragusa’s passing came after the death of Jaylon Ferguson, a linebacker for Baltimore, was also announced earlier in the day.
Speaking to an NFL reporter, his former Ravens teammate Brad Jackson said: “He was the leader, he was our captain. He meant everything to everyone. It’s a sad day. I just talked to him on Sunday. It’s terrible.”
Owner Steve Bisciotti said the club appreciates “everyone who has expressed an outpouring support for our players, coaches and staff” and called it a “tremendously sad day for the Baltimore Ravens.”
In 2012, Siragusa told Howard Stern that heart disease runs in their family. He also revealed that his father died of a heart attack at the age of 48.
“If I die tomorrow, I told my wife, just put a smile on my face,” he said. “Put a little (Frank) Sinatra on.”
