Rapper Gangsta Boo has passed away at the age of 43, TMZ reported on Sunday.

Lola Mitchell, who was better known by the stage name Gangsta Boo, was a rapper and a former member of the hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia who died suddenly at the age of 43.

According to the early reports, “the rapper’s death appears to be drug-related” with a “fentanyl-laced substance” presumably playing a major role in the musician’s death.

As of this writing, the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

Insiders with knowledge of the music artist, however, told TMZ that Boo was attending a concert in Memphis with her brother on Sunday.

The man was reportedly hospitalized following an overdose but has since recovered. It is believed that the 43-year-old also suffered an overdose.

Mitchell began her music career in the 1990s when she collaborated with various rap groups like Lord Infamous and Paul and Juicy J.

Besides her work on solo albums, the musician also joined hip hop group Three 6 Mafia before departing in the 2000s after working with the group on five studio albums.

Mitchell has since collaborated with various artists and groups while maintaining a strong social media presence.

She previously opened up about her life and expressed hopes that she would be remembered as a hardworking person once she was gone.

“I just want people to know that I’m a really hard worker. I’m human just like everybody else. I write all my own music. I’ve helped other people come up with concepts. I’ve helped put a lot of people on. I just want to be respected,” she said in a 2012 interview with Passion of the Weiss.

“When it’s all said and done, I want to be remembered as Gangsta Boo from 3-6 Mafia. The first lady of 3-6 Mafia. The first lady of crunk music. The first lady who brought a platinum plaque back to Memphis. The first lady who brought a gold plaque back to Memphis.”

She continued: “I’m the only female rapper in Tennessee that has ever did that and probably I will be the only one that ever will. I just want to be known as someone that put her heart into her music and who really really appreciated her fans.”
