Actor and rapper Coolio was found dead on the bathroom floor at his friend’s home.
The 59-year-old musician, who rose to mainstream success after the release of his hit albums Gangsta’s Paradise, Takes a Thief, and My Soul, passed away on Wednesday according to his manager.
As TMZ reported, the rapper was visiting one of his friends when he collapsed in their bathroom and became unresponsive.
Coolio was later found dead on the bathroom floor. While the official cause of death is yet to be determined, paramedics suspected cardiac arrest was responsible for the man’s premature passing.
The shocking news comes just over a week after Coolio performed at Riot Fest 2022 in Douglass Park, Chicago.
In recent years, the hip-hop star performed his back catalog hits regularly at various smaller venues across the States.
The rapper rose to fame back in the mid-90s after releasing the song Gangsta’s Paradise, which sold six million copies worldwide, that was featured in the namesake Platinum-selling album that was nominated for a Grammy.
“Gangsta’s Paradise wanted to be born; it wanted to come to life, and it chose me as the vessel,” the rapper previously said of his hit song.
Following his success in the music industry and the eventual decline in popularity of his newer hits, Coolio focused on becoming a chef and went on to write a cookbook called Cookin’ with Coolio.
He also appeared in a variety of music videos as well as films and TV shows such as Tyrone and Hollywood Squares. The rapper’s final album titled From the Bottom 2 the Top was released in 2009.
Our thoughts remain with Coolio’s family and friends during this tragic time.
