Casey White is back in custody after escaping from Alabama jail with the help of his prison guard lover Vicky White.
White, who was already serving a 75-year sentence over a 2015 murder at the time of his escape, was caught by US Marshals on Monday following an 11-day cross-state manhunt.
The authorities reportedly arrested the runaway inmate in Indiana after the marshals slammed into his Cadillac during a chase.
It has since been reported that Vicky White, the prison guard who helped the killer escape, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound just moments before the pair was apprehended.
As an audio recording reveals, Vicky called 911 moments before her death and told the dispatcher that she was holding a gun with her finger steadied on the trigger.
Following White’s arrest, however, the authorities began entertaining the possibility that Vicky wasn’t the one to pull the trigger and end her life.
Pending autopsy, the US Marshals revealed Casey told them his lover had shot herself at the time of his arrest.
“When we made the arrest yesterday afternoon, when we were taking Casey into custody he said ‘help my wife, she just shot herself.’ Obviously, there’s an ongoing investigation to determine just that,” they said on Good Morning America.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Sheriff Singleton, however, isn’t ruling out the possibility that Casey was the one to pull the trigger.
“He will never see the light of day again. He will be in a cell by himself. He will stay in handcuffs and shackles while he’s in that cell and if he wants to sue me for violating his civil rights, so be it. He’s not getting out of this jail again. I’ll assure you that,” he vowed since the arrest.
On Tuesday, he spoke to CNN and added:
“To go from day one, thinking she’s been kidnapped and maybe in danger then finding out she took him out willingly, then trying to determine was she threatened or coerced in some way… then finding out that she was basically the mastermind behind the whole plan. It’s been an emotional roller-coaster.
“Obviously, he was behind bars – he couldn’t have planned too much behind bars.
Personally, I think she was the one who put the plan together. She was in a position of knowledge.
She made sure the other armed deputies were out, she arranged to purchase the getaway car, she sold her house got her hands on cash, went shopping. She obviously put the plan together. ”What are your thoughts on this matter? Let us know in the comments and don’t forget to SHARE this post with your family and friends.
