A pregnant woman was killed execution-style while buying a birthday cake with her father.
25-year-old Marissa Perez from Los Angeles was waiting in her car at an Artesia intersection when she was approached by an unidentified gunman and shot dead.
According to the early investigation, the woman and her father were buying a cake ahead of the birthday party they were invited to.
Investigators also believe that the pregnant woman was targeted in the attack.
As of this writing, the police have yet to identify the gunman who shot and killed Perez after pulling up next to her car and opening fire.
“I want justice for my daughter, I want justice for my grandbaby,” Sandra Tolentino, the victim’s mother, said.
Speaking of her daughter’s killer, she added: “He doesn’t deserve to be walking these streets. He needs to be behind bars for the rest of his life.”
“She was 25. She was about to be a mother in five more months. She was so happy,” Tolentino told the local media as she fought back tears.
“She was super excited. She seemed like a whole new person, I just, I’ve never seen my sister glow like that,” Isaac Tolentino, the victim’s brother, added.
“She should have never been taken from us that way.”
Speaking out was also Perez’s aunt, April Perez, who revealed that it was the young lady’s boyfriend who first alerted her that something was wrong.
“Her boyfriend calls me and tells me ‘did Marissa make it there yet’ and I’m like ‘no’ and then he hangs up on me,” she recalled.
“She was just an innocent person that didn’t deserve to be brutally murdered like that, or her baby.”
Our thoughts are with Marissa’s family as the hunt for the murderer continues.
