A 24-year-old woman who was seven months pregnant with her fourth child was found dead with her stomach ripped open.
Ohana Karolin from Mogi Guacu, Brazil, was killed on Wednesday on what police believe may have been a ‘ritual killing.’
People who saw her lifeless body in Portal dos Lagos called the police right away. According to reports, the area is surrounded by churches.
The mother-of-three was wearing only a t-shirt when she was found. Police discovered a pair of flip-flops, some coins and her shorts beside her body.
Officers said that a ‘macabre ritual’ or sacrificing a woman is one of their lines of enquiry.
They called the father of her children to help identify the body after the remains were found.
Investigators are also looking into whether a current partner or ex-boyfriend could be behind the horrific killing.
Speaking to local news site UOL, a friend of the victim said: “She met a kind of tough gang. I even moved away from her a little bit because of that.
“But I don’t know what happened. She was really nice, she didn’t have a bad time. Everyone liked her.”
In Portal dos Lagos, where her body was found, vigils and services are regularly held in open air.
One of Ohana’s friends claimed she saw her inside a black car around midnight on the day she was killed.
Other witnesses also claimed they spotted a black vehicle near the crime scene at around 3 am that day.
The crime was registered as a homicide at the Mogi Guacu General Investigations Police Station.
Police are now waiting for a follow-up analysis from the Legal Medical Institute and the Institute of Criminalistics.
