A young pregnant woman has tragically passed away along with her unborn child after her ‘drunk’ boyfriend crashed their car while speeding.
23-year-old Adriana Sylmetaj from New York was just months away from giving birth when she was killed in a horror crash on Staten Island.
According to the reports, the young lady was in a Dodge Challenger with her boyfriend, 30-year-old Adem Nikeziq, when he crashed into a utility pole while driving intoxicated at over 100 mph at 5 am on Sunday.
As a result of the collision, the vehicle split into three parts and the pregnant woman was ejected from her seat.
Both Adriana and her unborn child died in the crash. Nikeziq survived the collision and has since been charged with negligent homicide, manslaughter, DUI, and reckless endangerment among other charges.
“They couldn’t save the baby. We’re never going to be ok. None of us. We’ve experienced a terrible tragedy,” a relative of Sylmetaj, who was originally from Albania, said.
Branding the young woman’s boyfriend as a “shame to the Albanian community” in NYC, the relative added: “He’s going away for the rest of his life and that’s still not good enough for that piece of s**t.”
Meanwhile, the owner of a local H20 Auto Spa said he was surprised that the utility pole was still standing after the high-speed crash that left the vehicles in pieces.
“I don’t understand how the [utility] pole is still standing. It was hit so hard,” Mario Basso said.
Our thoughts are with Adriana’s family and friends during this challenging time.
