The police in Kansas have sparked controversy after raiding the room of a terminally-ill man to seize his pain relief ‘medication’.
69-year-old Greg Bretz was in his hospital room at Hays Medical Center in Hays when the police raided his room to seize his THC paste and weed vape.
As the elderly man explained, he is weeks from death and he uses pain relievers to cope with his terminal cancer symptoms including excruciating pain.
His reasons, however, did not spare him from the police raid after a staff member allegedly reported the man to the authorities after catching him smoking his weed vape.
Kansas, alongside Nebraska and Idaho, remains one of the three states in the US where the use of medical marijuana is still banned.
Following the raid on Bretz’s hospital room on December 23, the sickly man was ordered to appear in court on January 2 even though he is currently bedridden and in no condition to travel.
It has since been revealed that the 69-year-old casually consumed THC paste with bread to seek relief from his inoperable cancer. When the pain got worse, he also sought relief through the use of his weed vape.
Bretz also revealed that the three officers who raided his room insisted that his vape could pose a fire risk due to the presence of oxygen even though he is allegedly not hooked to supplemental oxygen.
The man further explained that the cops insisted on taking away his pain relievers and that he will try everything in his power to fight back against his scheduled court appearance.
