BREAKING: Multiple People Dead After Two Planes Collide Mid-Air In California


Multiple people are believed to be dead following a mid-air plane crash in California.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a twin-engine Cessna 340 collided with a single-engine Cessna 152 in the sky above Watsonville, California, while preparing for landing at the Watsonville Municipal Airport.

The twin-engine plane was carrying two people while the single-engine jet had one person on board.

Following the incident that took place at around 3 pm on Thursday, one of the planes fell to the ground and landed in a field near the municipal airport. The other aircraft came crashing down on a hangar.

At least three people are believed dead as a result of the mid-air collision, city officials confirmed.

“Multiple agencies responded to Watsonville Municipal Airport after 2 planes attempting to land collided. We have reports of multiple fatalities,” the City of Watsonville announced on Twitter as the officials confirmed the crash.

“Report came in at 2:56pm. Investigation is underway, updates to follow.”

In one of the pictures shared by the city, the debris of one of the planes could be seen scattered around a badly-damaged hanger.

In another, firefighters could be seen securing the site of the crash landing.

Meanwhile, CBS News confirmed that the National Transportation Safety Board is teaming up with the Federal Aviation Administration to lead the investigation into the crash.

The horrifying news comes just weeks after two planes collided mid-air above a North Las Vegas Airport runway.

The August incident resulted in four casualties. There were no survivors.

“Preliminary information indicates that the Piper PA-46 was preparing to land when it collided with the Cessna 172,” the FAA previously announced.

“The Piper crashed into in a field east of Runway 30-Right and the Cessna fell into a water retention pond.”
