A high-rise residential building burst into flames spanning over 20,000 square feet after a military plane crashed into it.
The shocking incident takes place in Yeysk, a Russian city near Crimea, where a Kremlin bomber Sukhoi SU-34 plunged into an apartment block and caused the building to burst into flames.
According to local officials, at least three people were killed in the accident whereas several more remain in critical condition.
The officials also revealed that at least 19 people were injured in the crash and that several of them were young children.
After the apartment block caught fire, more than four hundred firefighters from nearby towns and cities rushed to the scene to subdue the flames.
Local reports also suggest that one person, who found themselves trapped on the upper floor, jumped to their death to avoid getting engulfed by the raging fire.
Furthermore, a photo from the time of the crash shows a pilot from the plane landing near the apartment complex after jumping out of the aircraft and deploying an emergency parachute.
“On October 17, 2022, while climbing to perform a training flight from the military airfield of the Southern Military District, a Su-34 aircraft crashed. The aircraft crashed within the city of Yeysk,” the Ministry of Defense confirmed.
“According to the report of the ejected pilots, the cause of the plane crash was the ignition of one of the engines during takeoff.
“At the site of the crash of the Su-34 in the courtyard of one of the residential areas, the fuel of the aircraft ignited.”
Meanwhile, pro-Kremlin journalist Aleksandr Kots claimed that the crashed bomber belonged to the 277th Bombing Aviation Regiment and that the plane likely suffered engine failure after birds got caught in it.
