A plane carrying more than 130 people crash-landed at Miami Airport and caught fire after its landing gear collapsed.
On Tuesday evening, 11 crew members and 126 passengers were left terrified when a RED Air jet crash-landed upon touchdown after its landing gear failed.
According to the reports, the plane began skidding across the tarmac on its belly before slamming into a communications tower and a small building.
The jet then reportedly caught fire with huge billows of black smoke emerging from the nose and the burning right wing.
In footage from the horrific scene, passengers could be seen frantically leaving the aircraft through the emergency exit after the plane caught fire.
Meanwhile, firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the blaze.
It has since also come to light that the plane touched down at Miami Airport at 5.38 pm after arriving in the States from the Dominican Republic.
According to preliminary reports, three people were rushed to the hospital as a result of the crash-landing.
The incident also resulted in a chain of flight delays, a Miami Airport spokesperson confirmed.
While the exact source of the issue is yet to be determined, The Federal Aviation Administration has already confirmed that the crash-landing was a result of the collapse of the plane’s landing gear.
It was also confirmed that the affected plane belongs to the RED Air fleet.
As of this writing, the investigation into the crash-landing and the circumstances of the incident remains ongoing.
