A pig that was about to be slaughtered killed its butcher after waking up suddenly and charging the man.
The incident took place in Hong Kong where a 61-year-old butcher shot a pig with a stun gun before attempting to kill the animal for meat.
The pig, however, woke up sooner than expected only to charge the butcher and knock the man off his feet. As the man fell to the floor with a cleaver still in his hand, the 15-inch blade ripped into his body and fatally injured him.
Though the official cause of death is yet to be confirmed, the police believe that the butcher died as a result of the injury sustained by the blade when he was knocked over by the pig.
“The Labour Department is saddened by the death of the person and expresses its deepest sympathy to his family,” a spokesperson for the Labor Department said in a statement.
“We will complete the investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures.”
Issuing condolences to the man’s family was also the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
As of this writing, it remains unclear what happened to the pig that was about to be slaughtered and whether the animal managed to escape or not.
While pigs are known to be highly intelligent creatures capable of emotional contagion and social interactions, they are typically not aggressive unless feeling extremely threatened or when protecting their offspring.
