The two nurses who were shot and killed by a 30-year-old man in a Dallas hospital maternity ward have been pictured.
Katie Annette Flowers, 63, and Jacqueline Pokuaa, 45, tragically died after Nestor Hernandez opened fire at Methodist Dallas Medical Center while visiting his girlfriend, who just gave birth to their baby.
The tragic incident occurred after the gunman accused his girlfriend of cheating and told her ‘whoever comes in this room is going to die with us.’
Police records revealed that Hernandez pulled out a gun and hit the woman on the head with the weapon numerous times.
He then started sending text messages and making ‘ominous’ calls to his family before telling his girlfriend that they were going to die.
When Pokuaa entered the room to attend to the mother, she was shot by Hernandez. Flowers also got shot after she checked what happened in the room.
Hospital police Sgt. Robert Rangel saw the injured nurse and called for backup. He then took cover outside the room where the gunman was reloading his gun.
Hernandez was reportedly on parole from prison for aggravated robbery at that time so he could see the birth of his son. He was then shot by a police officer after the attack.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said at a news conference: “In my opinion, this is a failure of our criminal justice system. A violent individual such as this should not have been on ankle monitor and should have remained in custody.”
Heartbroken friends, family, and fellow medical workers have been sharing the victims’ photos on social media as they demand justice.
Flowers’ loved ones confirmed her death on GoFundMe and described her as ‘a hero in her line of work, single mother to 4, and Grammie to 5 wonderful grandbabies.’
