A paramedic who attended to a teenager’s life in her dying moments after a car accident found out hours later that it was her own daughter.
17-year-old Montana Erickson from Winfield, British Columbia, and her friend were traveling on an Alberta highway when their car was hit by an oncoming truck.
The teen’s severe injuries left her unrecognizable even to her mother, Jayme Erickson, who tried to save her life.
Only minutes after returning home, officers arrived to tell Jayme that the crash victim was her daughter.
Sharing her heartbreak on Facebook, the grieving mother wrote: “My worst nightmare as a paramedic has come true.
“The critically injured patient I had just attended to was my own flesh and blood. My only child. My mini-me. My daughter, Montana.”
Montana and her friend had been driving on an Alberta highway on November 15 when their vehicle lost control on an icy road and was hit by a truck.
Paramedic Jayme responded to the scene and found a teenager trapped in the passenger seat. Her injuries were so severe that the mother couldn’t recognize her daughter.
Jayme provided the teen with emergency medical attention and stayed with her until she was airlifted to a hospital in Calgary.
“Although I am thankful for the 17 years I had with her, I am shattered and left wondering. What would you have become my baby girl? Who would you have been?” Jayme continued in her heartbreaking post.
“I will never see you graduate and walk across the stage, I will never see you get married, I will never know who you would have been. I love you more than anything in this world.”
Jayme said that her daughter donated her organs to save others.
“We are so happy to know that our baby girl is living on through others,” she expressed.
“In the wake of this tragedy, she saved other people. We know that’s what she would have wanted and we are so proud of her.”
