Tragic reports are coming in after a gunman has reportedly opened fire at students seated in a lecture hall.
According to local media outlets, the horrifying incident took place today in Germany where a lone man armed with a long-barrelled gun managed to make his way inside a university’s lecture hall.
The attacker randomly opened fire at everyone present inside the university that was present in the German town of Heidelberg, which is located on the southwestern side of Germany.
Police are now claiming to have shot the attacker dead as specialty SEK commando units managed to arrive at the scene on time and prevent further destruction from taking place.
The commandos alongside the police made a breakthrough entry inside, swarming the town in seconds after horrifying reports about the attacker’s presence made their way to the news.
The shooter reportedly began to shoot bullets in a random manner at students, right before he opted to point the gun at himself and kill himself, revealed authorities.
At the moment, the police are yet to specify the exact number of people shot and what their status is after being wounded in the tragic attack.
In the same way, they are yet to confirm the exact manner by which the attacker was killed.
The location of the incident was identified as the university’s natural science facilities where the university’s hospital is also located nearby in the area called the Neuenheimer Feld.
Just a while back, the police department issued a public statement that mentioned the following: “A large scale operation has taken place in the Neuenheimer Feld. This is all that is known so far. A single attacker has managed to injure several people in the lecture hall by using his long gun.”
At the moment, investigations into the shocking and tragic incident are taking place as many await answers and news about loved ones who may be involved in the tragedy.
