Tragedy in the world of sailing as a 17-year-old Olympian has tragically passed away during her training session in the sea.
According to local media reports, Eya Guesguez died when she and her sister began their training session out in the sea on Sunday.
The duo is said to have taken part in the sailing tournament during the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, where they were seen as shining performers with great young talent. But little did anyone know that one of them would no longer be able to join them again due to the heartbreaking accident.
Eya Guezguez who hailed from Tunisia passed away when her vessel went out of control due to the intense wind speed and capsized.
While her sister just managed to make it out alive by surviving the accident, she couldn’t and ended up dying in the tragic sinking.
Both sisters had great ambitions and goals attached to their performance but no one knew the journey would come to such a tragic and abrupt end with one of the sisters’ death.
The powerful and talented Tunisian sibling duo managed to finish in 21st position at the FX event. However, they had great hopes for their sailing future in the Olympic games, mentioned one report.
“They arrived in Tokyo as the youngest athletes to compete ever from their country. They had a huge wish to improve their performance in the future, after competing in Tokyo.
The devasting news of the young athlete’s death was initially reported by a journalist named Souhail Khmira. She tweeted: “Olympic Windsurfer Eya Guezgues has passed away after practice during a tragic accident. May she rest in peace”- the post read.
