Olivia Newton-John’s final wish before she passed away has been revealed by her grieving husband John Easterling, who announced her death on Facebook.
The singer and actress died at the age of 73 at her Southern California home on Monday morning. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Easterling said that instead of flowers, his wife and her family requested donations to be made to the star’s charity, the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.
Easterling wrote in a heartbreaking post: “Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.
“Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.
“In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.”
Olivia’s charity funds research into holistic treatments and plant-based medicine for cancer.
The actress, who beat breast cancer twice but was diagnosed again in 2017, has spent years lobbying the Australian government to approve medicinal cannabis for treating patients.
Her husband grew medicinal cannabis on their ranch in the US to “help with her symptoms.”
“Medicinal cannabis is something that should be available to everyone who is going through a chronic illness or pain,” she previously said.
“It really is a magical miracle plant.”
In 2012, Olivia opened her multi-million dollar cancer treatment center in Melbourne where clinical trials and breakthrough research are carried out.
Olivia peacefully died at her ranch in California. She is survived by her daughter Chloe Lattanzi, 36.
She took to Instagram and shared a loving tribute to her mother, writing: “I worship this woman. My mother. My best friend.”
