The Ohio cop who shot and killed Ma’Khia Bryant has been cleared of all his criminal charges by the court of law.
According to local media reports, the police officer who hails from Columbus was forced to undergo a thorough investigation after the high-profile case caused a major uproar in the country.
But now, it has been confirmed that his criminal record has been cleared of any wrongdoing, as announced by prosecutors on Friday.
The teenager was killed last year in April after Nicholas Reardon shot her four times, after the teen reportedly swung a knife at another woman, forcing her to fall to the ground.
Since Bryant was Black and Reardon was White, many began to bring the ‘race’ card into the incident, demanding an investigation.
Sources claim that the police responded to a 911 call that had been made from the teen’s foster home relating to a young girls’ group who threatened to stab several members of the household.
Therefore, the black teenager’s killing led to the inquiry by the Justice Department and a review about the officer involved.
Bryant passed away from her critical injuries on the spot, Moreover, the cause of the teen’s death had been listed by the coroner’s office as homicide too. And it failed to state any detail related to criminal intent.
On the other hand, the teen’s killing caused a further array of tensions in Ohio and its capital city as the number of fatal police shootings of black people were growing with each passing day.
In the same way, the case highlighted the condition of the state’s foster care system as well, explained reports.
But the recent grand jury’s decision is causing a little bit of an uproar for many who believe the deadly use of force by the cop was not justified.
