Barack Obama has come under fire after likening the Texas school shooting to the death of George Floyd.
On Tuesday, 19 innocent children and 2 teachers lost their lives after 18-year-old Salvador Ramos barricaded himself in Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and began shooting with his AR-15-style rifle.
Following one of the biggest school shootings in US history, celebrities, politicians, and other renowned figures spoke out to pay a tribute to the slain children and express sympathy for their families.
While former president Barack Obama called for stricter gun control and expressed pain over the loss of innocent lives following the massacre, he managed to anger fellow Americans on the following day as he linked the mass shooting to the murder of George Floyd.
“As we grieve the children of Uvalde today, we should take time to recognize that two years have passed since the murder of George Floyd under the knee of a police officer. His killing stays with us all to this day, especially those who loved him,” Obama tweeted on May 26, a day after the death anniversary of George Floyd who died after former officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for several minutes during his arrest.
Obama added: “In the aftermath of his murder, a new generation of activists rose up to channel their anguish into organized action, launching a movement to raise awareness of systemic racism and the need for criminal justice and police reform.”
While some followers backed the former president in remembering George Floyd, many blasted Obama and accused him of being tone-deaf and “vile” for bringing up Floyd while the nation is grieving for nineteen killed children.
“The families of more than 20 people (mostly children) killed yesterday do not deserve this disrespect,” El American editor-at-large, Emanuel Rincon, wrote in response to Obama’s comment.
“Those babies were truly innocent, he wasn’t. Let’s not put them in the same sentence of a man who’s [sic] untimely death was used to unleash a summer’s worth of chaos in the name of faux social justice,” former Georgia congressional candidate, Barrington Martin II, added.
Lashing out at Obama was also The Babylon Bee’s CEO, Seth Dillon, who mockingly wrote: “‘It sucks those kids died, but remember George Floyd? He’s who I’m still thinking about.’ — Barack Obama.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Fearless’ podcast host Jason Whitlock said: “Let’s stand George Floyd on the dead bodies of slaughtered children. This is one of the worst tweets in history.”
“The fact that you would compare his death to the slaughter of 20 children is just incomprehensible. My God you are a vile man,” author, writer, and speaker Matt Walsh tweeted.
“Not a single grieving parent today gives a rip about what happened to Floyd or anyone right now. For crying out loud. This is not the time to be advertising for your favorite activist group. How utterly vile,” RedState editor Kira Davis wrote.
