Hearbreaking reports coming from the horrifying Amazon warehouse tragedy in Illinois revealed how one worker was forced to stay put until the storm had passed.
Larry Virden had been working for Amazon for the past 5 months. Now, the victim’s girlfriend is coming forward and explaining how her lover couldn’t move and was forced to stay at the office.
“He texted me right before the deadly storm struck,” she cried.
The worker in Illinois texted his girlfriend stating how the company ordered him to hold off his driving and stay in one place until the storm passed. But she did not know that would be the last time she would ever be speaking to him.
46-year-old Larry Virden was killed during the later hours of Friday when the entire roof of the Amazon warehouse facility where he was present came down.
“I got a series of text messages from him as he always used to tell me when he was filling up the Amazon truck as that signaled when he’s ready to go back home. I just told him OK, and that I loved him. And that’s when he informed me about how Amazon won’t let him leave until after the storm blows over,” she added.
Cherie Jones was the worker’s girlfriend for the past 13 years.
She claims that the text message was sent around 8:23 pm, which was reportedly 16 minutes before the mega-storm struck down at about 8:39 pm.
Further details about the couple revealed how they lived in the nearby Collinsville district, which was just 13 minutes away from the Amazon facility.
“We heard that the tornado did not touch down until about 8:39 and that means he had a good 20 minutes to get back home,” she explained.
“I messaged Larry and that was the last text I ever got from him. I told him repeatedly how it was only lightning at that time but I got nothing after that,” she mentioned in a heartbreaking tone.
