Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp came out as gay in a TikTok clip that quickly went viral.
The 18-year-old actor, who rose to fame after playing Will Byers in the Netflix horror drama Stranger Things, recently confirmed fans’ suspicions as he revealed he was “more similar to Will Byers” than he thought while announcing he was gay.
“When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know,’” the young man wrote in his video.
“I guess I’m more similar to Will Byers than I thought!” he later added.
The big reveal comes just months after Noah confirmed rumors that the character he played in Stranger Things was gay and in love with Mike Wheeler, his best friend.
He further claimed that he previously tried to avoid this topic because he didn’t want to give away any spoilers.
“Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1: It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends? Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing,” he said in an interview with Variety.
“Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike. But before, it was a slow arc.”
Saying the producers did a good job at not making Will “all of the sudden be gay,” Noah added: “They are writing this real character and this real journey and real struggle and they’re doing it so well.”
