Nipsey Hussle’s killer has finally been jailed for gunning down the rapper back in March 2019.
33-year-old Eric Holder Jr. fatally shot the Grammy nominee as he unleashed a “hail of bullets” outside a Marathon store in Los Angeles more than three years ago.
Now, Holder has finally been jailed after the judge sentenced him to 60 years to life in prison following overwhelming evidence against the shooter.
As the court heard, Hussle, who was a Rolling 60s gang member, was shot 11 times following a dispute during which he confronted Holder about rumors suggesting that the latter was a snitch for the police.
Due to overwhelming evidence including surveillance footage and eyewitness reports, Holder and his legal team did not attempt to deny the shooting. Instead, Holder’s lawyer attempted to convince the jury to find the defendant guilty of voluntary manslaughter, a lesser charge.
Addressing the court was also Hussle’s friend, Herman Douglas, who was at the scene when the rapper was shot and killed.
“Our community right now, we lost everything, everything we worked for. One man’s mistake, one man’s action, messed up a whole community,” he said.
Douglas continued: “I don’t care what you give this guy. It ain’t about the time. I just want to know why. The world wants to know why. Why someone would do that?”
Sentencing Holder to 60 years to life in prison, Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke II insisted he had considered both Holder’s mental health struggles as well as the impact his actions have had on Hussle’s family and other victims involved in the shooting.
“I am very mindful of what was presented as to Mr. Holder’s mental health. I am also mindful of the devastation caused to the victims and their families. I believe this sentence balances the two,” the judge said.
