A former NFL star and Jacksonville Jaguars guard died suddenly after collapsing at his wife’s home.
Uche Nwaneri, 38, died on Friday after succumbing to acute heart failure at a property in West Lafayette, Indianapolis.
According to the reports, the athlete was at his wife’s home when she found him unresponsive in her bedroom. After calling 911, the paramedics arrived at the scene but the NFL player could not be saved.
Autopsy results confirmed that foul play is not suspected to have played a role in the sudden death.
At the time of his passing, Nwaneri was reportedly visiting his wife in Indianapolis though he had a permanent residence in Atlanta, Georgia, where his business interests were centered.
The young man was best known for playing seven seasons with Jacksonville Jaguars from the year 2007 to 2013.
“He played 7 seasons with the Jaguars, 2007-2013, and forged a strong bond with the Jags fans that’s remained to this day,” a statement by the club read.
“On behalf of the Jaguars organization and my family, our thoughts are with Uche’s family + friends at this terrible time.”
During his time with the Jaguars, Nwaneri played in 104 games and helped the football team secure dozens of victories.
After his journey with the Jaguars came to an end, the NFL star signed a deal with Dallas Cowboys. Just two months later, however, he was cut from the team.
Our thoughts are with Uche’s family and friends during this challenging time.
